We’re glad to present our first concert for the season of 2021-2022 with four pieces moving around elements touching on the materiality of sound, stasis versus movement and the act of challenging our linear time prespective.
In James Tenney’s piece To Weave three separate piano lines are gradually being weaved into one another, creating a large shape leaning on the space created between the played notes and the frequency differences which resonate in between them.
In his piece Unsere Liebe tanzt auf Leichen for two harps, bass drum and bowed crotales Shaul Kohn examines the possibilities of exiting the linear time experience by staying in a static acoustic space in which musical moments arise only to collapse into themselves. Assaf Shatil’s Golden invites one to spend time with the perishable glow of golden california sunsets, drawn from Shatil’s long term relationship with this marvelous natural happening, this music distils a canon of different voices into one musical ecstasy.
Harp pioneer & Composer Zeena Parkins shares a version of her piece Drumming, re-arranged & remixed by Shaul Kohn for four speakers and eight performers.
originally featured in her album “Three Harps, Tuning Forks & Electronics” (2017, Good Child Music), this occasion-specific rework of the music exists in the space between pre-recorded and live music, blurring the lines while attempting to demolish both ends.
